“HEY!!! It’s not my fault…..”

Incident 1: Exxon Valdez oil disaster.

24th March, 1989, supertanker Exxon Valdez after getting struck in a reef spilled million litres of crude oil into the pristine waters of Alaska. Let’s hear the blame game from each end.

Exxon blamed:
Capt. Joseph Hazelwood for the incident – 10 hours after the incident his blood alcohol registered 50% higher than the limit set by the coast guard.

Crew blamed:

  • Sharp cut in crew manning.
  • Fatigue.
  • Improper breathing masks to prevent inhalation of toxic gases.

Investigators blamed:

  • Exxon for ignoring Hazelwood’s history of drinking problems.
  • Exxon for supplying low alcohol beer to the crew even though it violated their own non-alcohol policy.
  • Exxon for allowing chemicals for cleaning that did more damages than good.

Incident 2 – Pigeon droppings found in your balcony.

Again let’s hear from all parties concerned.

Pigeon perspective – Balcony is my home and you can’t blame me for nature calls.

Your perspective – Anxious, helpless and victimized by pigeons waited for next monsoon to get the droppings cleaned by itself.

Two incidents – with our same justification for failures. However, for incident two I am sure my explanation on your perspective was wrong and I strongly believe without if’s and but’s and considering droppings as a health hazard instead of waiting for the next monsoon you must have rolled up your sleeves (considering no maids allowed during COVID lockdowns) and had it cleared at the earliest possible opportunity.

But how often do you roll up your sleeves and instead of ducking responsibilities and with all universal justifications ready to shift the spotlight take accountability and act responsibly? Let me assure you that the person whom you will be shifting the spotlight will also be ready to cover his tails with his age old excuses and this downward spiral of blame game will just continue.

As the Corona Virus cases are increasing day by day, instead of behaving like a responsible citizen we end up ranting, “It’s not my fault.” Virus has no idea which direction to run, so I ran over him, surely is not going to be a good justification for marrying our enemy. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an option to file a case about ourselves for our own stupidity? Wearing rose colored glasses and seeing what you want to see rather what you need to see won’t solve the purpose. Corona virus started an epidemic, which can also be ended by seeing the situation clearly and honestly. Good news is that this time you don’t have to roll up your sleeves. Just by taking shower and staying home will solve the case. When people see clouds, I have seen them carrying umbrella and in current case, you can’t even see the virus. So why not just STAY HOME…. STAY SAFE…. STAY STRONG….

Until health organisations discover a full proof vaccination, to ensure your health and safety, STAYING HOME is the only way to win this game or else be ready to pay the piper for your own inaction with your age old excuse – “HEY!!! It’s not my fault….”
